Previous education and training:
Lyn has always had a passion with working with children and young people.
She was involved in a youth "drop in" centre for over 8 years where she undertook training with Fusion Australia as a Youth Worker. Here she acquired on the job counselling skills with young people as well as organisational and team building skills.
She taught personal development and health in the local high schools and was involved in running youth events and camps, as well as coordinating and teaching workshops on communication, healthy lifestyle, self esteem, and family issues.
Lyn completing her General Nursing training at Hornsby and Kuringai hospital, and her post graduate nursing experience at Concord Hospital NSW. As a Registered Nurse (RN) Lyn worked in the State, Commonwealth and Private health systems.
It was her position as a Childcare Centre Director which consolidated her paediatric nursing experience and her interest in child development. She was instrumental in opening a number of community child care centres in her local area and became involved on a local level with various day care facilities. It was through this involvement that Lyn felt the need to pursue further study.
Lyn's study at Macquarie University (NSW) in Education and Psychology, corresponded with working as a Teacher at TAFE in early childhood studies. She taught child development, health, family and community studies, and supervised students on their placements for 10 years.
Lyn was also involved in teaching child development and health to inmates at the Mulawa womens' correctional facility. This enabled inmates to gain formal qualifications in childcare.
Lyn's honours thesis involved studying the temperament of anxious children and their parents. Her theoretical thesis investigated the effects of media, peers, education and parenting on the sexual behaviour of teens. She was supervised by Prof Ron Rapee and Prof Ailsa Burns at Macquarie University.
Since her graduation from university study, Lyn completed her post graduate supervision and training with Michael Durrant as a Registered Psychologist, while working in private practice, and teaching at TAFE. Michael is director of the Brief therapy Institute of Sydney and is well known for his ground breaking work in applying solution focussed therapy to all areas of psychology.
Lyn continued her interest in Solution Focussed Brief Therapy through teaching at universities (UWS and Sydney University), the Brief Therapy Institute of Sydney (BTIS) and her own professional workshops. Lyn gained her accreditaion as a psychology supervisor and regularly supervises Clinical, Counselling, and Educational and Developmental Masters students on placement. She has links with UWS, Monash, Sydney and Macquarie Universities. She also supervises interns completing their 2 year post graduate internship..
